If you want, Google happily tracks your every online move

Google’s latest project is called Web History, and it offers registered Google Account users a chance to peruse not just their account history with Google, but one’s surfing history. “Imagine being able to search over the full text of pages you’ve visited online and finding that one particular quote you remember reading somewhere months ago,” explains Google’s Payam Shodjai, product manager for Personalization. “Imagine always knowing exactly where you saw something online, like that priceless YouTube video of your friend attempting to perform dance moves from a bygone age. Better yet, imagine having this wealth of information work for you to make searching for new information easier and faster.”

The data is available only when the user logs on with a Google account and password, the same account used for other Google services such as Gmail. In order to track web surfing information, the user must have the Google Toolbar installed in their web browser, and have PageRank enabled. The Web History feature can be turned off and on as you like.

Nike said last week that it plans to make its entire line of running shoes compatible with Apple Inc’s iPod nano line by the end of this year.

The comment was made Nike president and chief executive Mark Parker on Thursday as the shoe maker released its third-quarter results, saying it had a soft year with some specialty mall retailers.

The segment overall was down, according to Boston.com, with some companies like Foot Locker Inc. and Finish Line Inc. suffering from slumping sales. Sony finally launches its video Walkman

Eighteen months after the release of Apple’s iPod video, Sony strikes back with its first digital video product: the NW-A800 series Walkman will hit Europe in April. Releases to other markets are expected, but timing is currently unknown. For Europe, there are three models: the NW-A805 (2GB), A806 (4GB), and A808 (8GB). The screen is a 2-inch LCD panel with QVGA resolution (240 pixels by 320 pixels). It has a portrait orientation, although videos can be viewed with the device either held vertically or horizontally. The NW-A805 is listed on Sony’s online store for €180 ($237), the NW-A806 for €230 and the NW-A808 for €300.

Audio playback in a number of flavors of Sony’s ATRAC compression is possible, and Sony supplies software for converting Windows Media Audio, MP3 and WAV files to ATRAC. It’s also possible to directly load MP3 files onto the Walkman, but battery life will be shorter. For video the Walkman plays back MPEG4 H.264/AVC encoded files. According to Sony’s figures, playback time on a fully-charged battery for audio is roughly 30 hours for ATRAC files encoded at 132Kbps while for video its seven hours for MPEG4 files encoded at 768Kbps. The 53-gram Walkman measures 44 millimeters wide by 88mm high and is 9mm thick.
