India to Ban Illegal VoIP Service Providers

Days back Deccan Chronicle started a debate on ”DIGITAL ATTRACTIONS OR DISTRACTIONS?” i was really amazed to read some of the entries like
“I live in the Begumpet area and I’ve seen that these e-billboards really distract drivers and pedestrians. The idea of e-billboards is awesome but they should be placed inside or just outside theatres and malls. In international cities, these billboards are placed in areas where there is less traffic.”
We call Hyderabad the Hitech city, but when it comes to innovation in signage, we say they are a distraction. I think this type of signage will give a new look to our city. Also, they are in the most congested parts of the city, where the average speed is less than five km per hour. Let’s be optimistic and encourage innovation rather than have a stone-age mindset.

This move comes mainly because these VoIP providers don’t pay 12 percent service tax and six percent of their revenue share. Read the full article at hindu (found via Tech-buzz)
